The Magic Pill

So this week I finally conceded and went to the doctor about the discomfort in my chest. When you’ve had a couple of heart attacks you tend to worry about things like that.

Anyway, I march into his office and was ushered to sit down, he smiles at me and we get the pleasantries out the way then he says ‘’you need to lose a stone in weight’’ just like that, so I replied ‘’wow doc, I thought you were going to tell me to quit smoking’’.

Bottom line is, I have a series of blood and stress tests to undergo beginning next week.

Lose a bloody stone in weight!! He couldn’t give me a tablet for that!

Under the microscope

When spring arrives so do the match makers. I guess I’m as bad as the next and I was encouraging a friend recently to go for his goal and ‘nail’ that girl! That wasn’t meant in a sexual context but as a life choice. She’s a great gal and he seems to be dithering.

I tend to weigh up things a little differently as I grow older. I look for what improvement to my life somebody could make and what I could offer her. I don’t mean that in a financial way, but in a way that is about sharing. Sharing laughter, cuddles and kisses, sharing hopes, aspirations and dreams. Someone who will tell it to me ‘how it is’. But hang on … haven’t I always looked for that?!!

I was stunned when my friend offered an explanation as to why I keep girls at arms length and dump them when they get too close. He said ‘’it’s simple, you’re afraid of being dumped by them’’ and went on to explain this statement in depth. He rose some interesting points but he missed the hub of it. The hub being, I’m actually happy with my life, with my world.

OMG, another year already!

10:05 Apr 24 2009
Times Read: 839

In two weeks it’s my daughter’s birthday. I can’t believe I’m writing this as it seems like only yesterday I was sorting out her last party!

This year we have an easy get out (well easy for me).

As her birthday is just a few days after her friends it has been decided that a double party will work. They are in the same class at school which means they will be inviting pretty much the same names. With family and friends we’re expecting about 40/50 kids!!!!!

My babe attends a catholic school which has a church and function rooms all in the grounds. My ex does so much for the school and has managed to book out the ‘Catholic Club’ (it’s who you know) which is also part of the school … basically it’s a bar with a stage and large dancing/dining area. As this party is to be a disco it suited perfectly.

I guess the bar will be off limits (kinda strange having two different kinds of spirits around) but it does boast a great big kitchen which will be ideal for food prep etc … oh and the teas and coffees!

My babes mum will arrange all the food for the kids and the adults whilst the other girls’ family are to organize the disco, lights and karaoke.

So what will I be doing?!! NOTHING .. Whooooo hoooooo!

I have been told to just show up and not to bring, buy or do a thing (ex’s orders).

I’ve told my daughter I will do a duet with her to the song ‘I got you babe’ … her face went white!!

The following Sunday after the party is her actual birthday … and it’s also ‘our’ day. She lets me sing on those days .. lol!

Seeing Angels

Times Read: 847

So you think you know me? Well don’t send an angel to me just yet.

Wasn’t it said that one must tolerate the demon for the sake of an angel?

Tolerate me a little longer …. Just a little.

Last night I was with a friend and her partner, just chilling and watching TV. During the film I came over funny, I started to feel ‘odd’ … so much so that an ambulance was called. I used my GTN spray (it widens the arteries for people with heart problems) and within 5 mins the paramedic was there. Nowadays you get the paramedic ahead of the ambulance. In less than another 5 mins the ambulance arrived. They are just incredibly professional and efficient. They had me wired up where I sat and asked all the relevant questions. Bottom line was it was not my heart ….. probably indigestion. On seeing me blush they all assured me that the right decision was made by calling them out.

It’s taken me many years to realize that I observe better than I participate. I want to learn by my mistakes and by other people’s but still, I seem to keep making them, is this my weakness or just a fact of human nature?

We are told that if something is worth getting or achieving then it normally comes through hard work, that way when it’s here we appreciate it better. Anything worth its sort is worth the sweat.

Strange that a simple, normal life needs to be so stressful in achieving!

My weekend

15:41 Apr 20 2009
Times Read: 861

On the whole it was a great weekend for me. I had my daughter sleep over and as the weather wasn't great the two of us just chilled.

On Saturday aftenoon I dropped her at a friends house where she get's along great with their kids and asked if her mum could pick her up from there, my friends had no problem with that and I rang my ex to tell her what was happening.

So that left me with what I thought was going to be a relaxing weekend!

Two of my cronies phoned and asked if they could pop down with their partners and maybe stay over. I have no problem with them as I have known the guys for at least 35 years. Also one of the girls has become very close to me too over the past 8 years or so ... like a sister .. close, so there was never going to be an issue with them staying on short notice.

Not wanting to be the odd one without a partner I decided to phone a friend ... (as apposed to taking 50/50) lol.

So that made six of us.... in a one bedroom flat.

Don't ask! lol

The girls really went into their own and organised the logistics superbly.

This was taken on coming back from the pub. It's a familiar pose, the boys are crashed out and the girls are organising the bedding and cofee. lol

Evaluating

Talking about the weather in this country has gone from being small talk to the subject we all love to discuss.

Last night we had a tremendous thunderstorm; it really was something more than April showers. The thunder was so loud, the air was electric but it has made for a beautiful and sunny spring morning.

During the bolts of lightning and the crashes that followed, I couldn’t help remembering a conversation I once had with an old girlfriend about making love during such a storm. I wanted it to be like the conception of the Anti-Christ!

I have a full week to amuse myself, then it’s back to the grind next Tuesday.

I will do my usual stint for Pesach and Easter, but I really need to spend some time with just me and my thoughts. I need to catch up on me.

I was once accused of procrastinating and she nailed it, I do, but I’d rather that than be heading in the wrong direction!

Book 'em Danno.....

23:52 Apr 03 2009
Times Read: 921

I love books, I love to read, I always have from a very young age. I'm glad my daughter seems to have followed in my footsteps.

I am still sorting out books in my new place but I have found that I am able to part with about a dozen boxes. It's mainly the type of books that I have kept through sentiment ... you know the sort.

Anyway, I phoned around to my local charity shops (4 to be precise) and they all told me the same thing ... ''Thanks, but no thanks'' .... not one of them wanted them, even after I explained their 'quite good' condition. They believe that the internet has a lot to answer for, I'd like to see them take a pc to the bath! But it maybe true, I know I still like to put my feet up with a good book!

So I went online and sulked!!

Me having a break after sorting through even more books!

Dumbfounded

Times Read: 939

I was getting ready to spend some time among the journal writers of VR when I came to my all time favourite writer. I did leave a comment, my only comment for today.

There is no way that that entry can be followed so I have not continued to 'journal jump'

I don't need to spoil my evening by reading someone's drama or something that resembles English.

I'm happy. Thank you. xxx
